AEVA Charging Station Award
Background
The growth of fast charging stations throughout Australia is picking up, and this is great to see. However, EV drivers often report poor user experiences at public charge points - very few are shaded, some are located in inconvenient or unpleasant spots (e.g. close to traffic, situated on service station forecourts and in parking garages), and very few provide any additional facilities or services nearby.
In June 2024, the Australian Electric Vehicle Association decided to establish an annual Best EV Charging Station Award, to find and promote the best public charging location in each state and territory, with a national winner to be selected from these.
This award will:
- Provide recognition to the communities who put effort into making their charging facilities attractive and functional
- Provide an incentive for all current and future charging stations to constantly improve
- Raise the profile of the AEVA, while the announcement of winners would offer ongoing media interest, while assert the Association's independence
- Promote AEVA membership (given that only AEVA members will be able to nominate locations)
How does the award work?
AEVA members may navigate to this page where a nomination form can be filled out. This need not be in their own state/territory; in fact, the most objective experiences will be from those travelling interstate.
When nominating, we ask you to identify the charging station (with a link on PlugShare, if you have one) and list some reasons for your nomination. You can also identify what you see as the best attributes of your preferred station.
Judging
A panel of judges drawn from the Board, will examine all of the nominated sites and choose a winner for each state/territory (if nominations were received) along with a national winner. The winners will be announced at the National Conference, which is usually held in November each year. Judging criteria will be left to the panel, but will largely rely on an objective scoring system.
