Battery EV sales rise despite supply constraints

Earlier this month the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) released its VFACTS data for the second quarter of 2022.

At the half-year mark, the sales of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) totalled 9680, which was just 1.8% of the 537,858 new cars sold in Australia so far in 2022.

This compares with an estimate of 6500 Battery EV sales in the first half of 2021.  Sales in 2022 would undoubtedly have been much higher were it not for the supply constraints affecting most models.

At the half-year mark, the sales of Plug-in Hybrid EVs (PHEVs) totalled 2941.  The biggest-selling PHEV model was the MG HS.
