Hobart Conversion SIG

This Special Interest Group is focused on converting vehicles to electric.  Based in Hobart, we aim to share the knowledge and experience required to get you off the ground with your project.

John Hanley is the convener of the group.  If you would like to know more please make contact with him via the secretary at secretary@tas.aeva.asn.au.  Or just turn up at a meeting!  This from John:

Following feedback from our last meeting at the State Cinema regarding parking difficulty we will move our Conversion Group SIG meetings to the Civic Club, 134 Davey Street. This is on the left after SOHO hotel and before Hungry Jacks. There is plenty of parking at the rear of the building. We have use of a meeting room on the first Tuesday of each month. While the Civic Club has a licensed bar facility, I would encourage all members to drink responsibly.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 1st March at 7pm. At this meeting I hope we can explore some of the planning issues needed before commencing a conversion: vehicle weight, speed requirements, range requirements and associated considerations. I am not fully skilled in working these out, so help from all present would be great. Perhaps we can get to know who really wants to undertake a conversion.

A purely social meeting is planned for Tuesday 5th April at 7pm to discuss progress with conversion plans, also at the Civic Club.

A further meeting on Tuesday 3rd May at 7pm at the Civic Club will see an informal presentation by Stephen Caplice (authorised vehicle inspector) on EV requirements for a "mod plate" - Approval for registration following modification. The arrangements for mod plate approval will be changing by the end of the year and could affect the time line for some conversions.
